‘Proxies are not configured’ / ‘VPN proxies are not available on this installation’

You might be here because: “proxies are not configured” · “VPN proxies are not available on this installation” · “saving proxy passwords is not available on this installation” · “503 when I add a proxy” · “proxy tab is empty and add fails”

Short answer

These messages come from the installation itself, not from your account or your proxy. “Proxies are not configured.” means the proxy store is not set up on this installation. “VPN proxies are not available on this installation.” and “Saving proxy passwords is not available on this installation.” mean no encryption key is configured, so Driftstack refuses to store a secret rather than store it unencrypted. Nothing you change in the app fixes this.

Check first

  • Are you connected to the Driftstack service you expect (the hosted one, or a separately run installation)?
  • Does the same action fail for every proxy, or only one? These refusals fail for all.

Likely causes and fixes

  1. A separately run installation. Whoever runs it needs to configure proxy storage and the encryption key. Tell them the exact sentence.
  2. On the hosted service. These sentences should not appear. Note the time and what you did, and report it.
  3. You only wanted a SOCKS5 proxy without a password. A proxy with no password does not need the key — but any VPN proxy always does.

If it still fails

This is an operator-side setting: a person handles it. Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include the exact message, the time, and which service you were signed in to.
