Review and accept updated Terms / Privacy / DPA / AUP
You might be here because: “it keeps asking me to accept terms” · “legal acceptance required” · “review and accept the required terms before continuing” · “a banner at the top of the dashboard about agreements” · “desktop sign in shows accept all documents” · “Legal document has changed since you fetched it” · “can’t start a session, something about terms”
Short answer
When a legal document (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Data Processing Agreement, Acceptable Use Policy) gets a new version that asks for acceptance, the account owner must accept it before a new API key can be created — including the one the desktop app’s browser sign-in creates. Rotating an existing key, which replaces it with a new one, waits for the acceptance too. An app connected with OAuth gets no new access token either until the account that approved it has accepted; its tokens last an hour, so it stops within the hour. A minor update can count the owner’s acceptance of earlier versions, and then nothing is asked. Today the DPA 5.7 counts an acceptance of DPA 5.0 or later, the Privacy Policy 6.9 counts an acceptance of Privacy Policy 6.0 or later, the Terms of Service 4.9 count an acceptance of Terms 4.0 or later, and the Acceptable Use Policy 1.6 counts an acceptance of 1.1 or later. An owner whose latest acceptance is of any other earlier version is asked again. A wording or formatting edit that keeps a document’s version number asks for nothing and blocks no key or app. Existing keys (the desktop app’s included), sessions and dashboard sign-in keep working meanwhile: starting a session does not wait for it. The dashboard shows a banner listing the documents with an Accept all and continue button; the desktop app’s browser sign-in shows the same list inline.
Check first
- Signed in to the web dashboard as the owner? Acceptance is recorded per account; a teammate’s click does not cover the owner’s account.
- Do you see the banner at the top of any dashboard page? It checks on every page load.
- Desktop app said “Review and accept the required terms before continuing.”? Finish the browser sign-in in the browser tab — that is where the accept step is.
Likely causes and fixes
-
Dashboard banner. Click each document name to read it (links go to the public legal pages), then Accept all and continue. The page reloads and the banner is gone.
-
Desktop app “Sign in with browser” stops at an accept step. The authorization page detects the pending list and shows an accept-all panel; after accepting, it retries the sign-in for you. If it does not return to the app, start “Sign in with browser” again from the app.
-
“Legal document … has changed since you fetched it. Refresh and re-accept.” (409) — a newer version was published between loading and accepting. Reload and accept again.
-
“Could not check whether updated agreements are required.” Click Retry agreement check or reload.
-
“Acceptance outcome is unknown. Reload to check what remains before retrying.” Reload first; the banner then shows only what is still pending.
-
Banner returns after accepting. A further version was published, or you are acting on another account (the check honours the selected account). Check which account is selected and accept again.
