Move asks to re-type a proxy password / passwords differ
You might be here because: “re-type the password to move this proxy” · “this computer can no longer read this proxy’s password” · “this computer’s password for this proxy differs from the account’s” · “move wants a password I don’t have” · “which proxy password should I keep”
Short answer
Two situations make the move stop on a proxy’s password. Either this computer can no longer decrypt the password it saved, so you must type it again; or the account already holds the same proxy with a different password, and the move refuses to overwrite either until you choose.
Check first
- Do you have the password from your proxy provider? The app can’t recover it for you.
- Is the “different” password really different, or the same proxy with a session or country encoded in the password? Providers do that, and then the two really are different proxies (see duplicates).
Likely causes and fixes
- “This computer can no longer read this proxy’s password. Re-type it to move this proxy.” The stored password is unreadable on this computer. Type it and continue; or Skip for now and it stays here, encrypted, until you retry or delete it.
- “This computer’s password for this proxy differs from the account’s.” Choose Use this computer’s password or Keep the account’s. Nothing is written until you pick. If unsure, keep the account’s — it’s the one other computers already use.
- You don’t know the password at all. Skip that item; the rest of the move proceeds. Get the password from your provider, then reopen the move from Settings → Move this computer’s data.
If it still fails
Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include the summary line and the wording shown, never the proxy password. This is self-service; no one at Driftstack can see or recover proxy passwords.
