Email or password not accepted
You might be here because: “the email or password was not accepted” · “can’t log in, wrong password but I’m sure it’s right” · “login not working” · “it says email or password is incorrect” · “sign in keeps failing” · “my password stopped working”
Short answer
The server answered “Email or password is incorrect”; the dashboard shows it as “The email or password was not accepted”. It does not say which half is wrong. Reset your password if you’re not certain of it, or sign in with an email link instead.
Check first
- Same address you signed up with? Aliases and a second mailbox are the usual cause.
- Caps Lock, an auto-filled old password, or a trailing space from a password manager.
- Is your browser blocking site storage? Sign-in refuses to start without it.
- Did you sign up with Google or GitHub? Then there may be no password at all — use that button.
Likely causes and fixes
- Wrong password. Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. The link lasts 60 minutes and is single-use. See Forgot password / reset link problems.
- Your password was removed. If you signed in with a magic link before your address was confirmed, Driftstack removes the password you set at signup and emails “The password on your Driftstack account was removed”. Set a new one with a password reset.
- You never had a password. Accounts created with Google, GitHub, or a magic link don’t have one. Use Sign in with a magic link instead or the provider button.
- “Verify your email address before signing in.” That’s a different message — the password was fine, the address isn’t confirmed. The page shows a resend path. See Sign up and verify your email.
- “Too many incorrect passwords for this email.” Sign-in is paused, not broken. See ‘Too many incorrect passwords’ — sign-in paused.
If it still fails
Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include the email address, the exact sentence shown, and whether you use a password, a provider button, or email links. Password resets are self-service; the assistant never sees or changes passwords, and a person will not either — they can only confirm the account exists and how it signs in.
