Forgot password / reset link problems

You might be here because: “forgot my password” · “reset email never came” · “reset link doesn’t work / expired” · “this page needs to be opened from the link in your reset email” · “password must be at least 12 characters” · “passwords do not match” · “I reset my password and the desktop app signed me out” · “reset took too long”

Short answer

Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. Driftstack emails a single-use reset link that lasts 60 minutes. Open it, enter a new password of at least 12 characters twice, and you’re signed in. Changing the password signs out your other sessions, so the desktop app asks you to sign in again.

Check first

  • Correct address, and did you check spam/junk? Search from:[email protected].
  • Is the link under 60 minutes old and unused?
  • Site storage allowed? The reset page refuses without it but keeps your entries.

Likely causes and fixes

  1. Email never arrives. Wait a minute and request again — a new request does not cancel the old link (each works until it expires, and using one retires the rest); the endpoint is limited to 3 per minute per network address. Then work through Didn’t get the verification, sign-in, reset or invite email.
  2. “The request took too long, so the email may already be on its way.” Check inbox and spam before requesting another; if several arrive, use the newest.
  3. “This page needs to be opened from the link in your reset email.” You reached the reset page without a token. Click the link in the email, or request a new one.
  4. “Passwords do not match” / “Password must be at least 12 characters.” Retype both fields. Passwords are 12–128 characters; there are no composition rules.
  5. Link refused as invalid, expired, or already used. Request a fresh one; links are single-use.
  6. “Your password was changed, but your browser couldn’t finish signing you in.” The change succeeded. Don’t reuse the link — sign in with the new password.
  7. “The request took too long, so your password may already have been changed.” Try the new password first; only if that fails, request another link.
  8. A two-factor prompt after the reset. Enter your authenticator code within the time shown; previous sessions are already signed out.
  9. Sign-in paused after the reset. If two-factor was paused for too many wrong codes, the message names a wait before the new password works — see ‘Too many incorrect passwords’ — sign-in paused.

If it still fails

Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include the address, the sentence shown, and the time. The assistant and support never see or set passwords; if the address itself is unreachable (lost mailbox), that is account recovery and goes to a person.
