‘Too many incorrect passwords’ — sign-in paused (a person only if the attempts weren’t yours)
You might be here because: “too many incorrect passwords, try again in 15 minutes” · “I’m locked out of my account” · “sign-in is paused” · “got an email saying someone is trying to sign in” · “it won’t let me try my password again” · “sign-in is temporarily unavailable”
Short answer
After 10 wrong passwords for one email address within 15 minutes, password sign-in for that address is paused for 15 minutes. Nothing is deleted or disabled. Wait the minutes the message names, or reset your password — the reset link is not blocked by the pause.
Check first
- Read the exact message; the dashboard shows the server’s sentence word for word. Each names a wait in minutes.
- Is it about the password, or about two-factor codes? Code pauses are in Two-factor sign-in paused after too many incorrect codes.
Likely causes and fixes
- “Too many incorrect passwords for this email. Try again in N minutes, or reset your password.” Ten failed attempts in 15 minutes. Wait, or use Forgot password now — a reset link works during the pause.
- The message is about two-factor codes rather than the password. See Two-factor sign-in paused after too many incorrect codes — it covers the code pause, the per-method pause and the pause carried over a password reset.
- “Too many incorrect passwords. Try again in 15 minutes.” while turning on two-factor in Settings — the current-password check has its own limit.
- “Sign-in is temporarily unavailable. Try again in a minute.” Not about you: the server couldn’t reach its attempt counter and refuses rather than admit unlimited guesses. Retry in a minute.
If it still fails
Driftstack emails “Someone is trying to sign in to your Driftstack account” once per pause. If that email wasn’t you, or you can’t get back in after the pause and a password reset, that is account access — a person handles it: press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include the email address, the exact message, and the time. The assistant cannot lift a pause, and support does not lift it early either; it expires on its own.
