What ‘Sign out on this computer’ removes and keeps
You might be here because: “what happens if I sign out of the desktop app” · “will signing out delete my proxies” · “will signing out delete my AI chats” · “do my recordings stay if I sign out” · “keep for this account or discard” · “how to switch accounts in the app” · “sign out to switch from cloud to self-hosted”
Short answer
Signing out removes the app’s copy of your account from this computer only. Everything on your Driftstack account stays there and comes back when you sign in again, on this computer or any other: your profiles, proxies, folders and tags, settings, AI chat history, saved assistant templates, and your progress in the Get started guide. Your API key keeps working until you revoke it in the web dashboard. Recordings stay on this computer.
Check first
- The sidebar button, the keyboard shortcut and Settings all ask the same short question, “Sign out?”, with a line on what stays. The full list of what is removed from this computer is behind the small link What is removed from this computer.
- Before your key is removed, the app sends the AI chats it has not saved to your account yet; it waits up to 5 seconds.
- On a server that does not keep chats on your account (an older or self-hosted one), the question says so up front: there, your AI chat history and saved assistant templates are on this computer only, and signing out deletes them for good.
- Switching cloud ↔ self-hosted starts with this sign-out; the wizard reappears right after.
Likely causes and fixes
- What is removed from this computer only: your API key, the copy of your account it keeps so the app opens quickly (your proxies, profiles, folders and tags as last loaded, and its copy of your AI chat history and saved assistant templates), proxy check results taken from this computer, your progress in the setup checklist and the Get started guide as shown here, the recent devices in New profile, and the app’s diagnostic log. Any open session window closes.
- What stays: everything on your account, now including your AI chat history, saved assistant templates and Get started progress; recordings on this computer; the key itself (revoke it in the dashboard if you want it dead).
- “This computer holds proxies, profile settings or AI chats that are not on your account yet.” Proxies and profile settings from an older version that haven’t been moved, or AI chats the app could not save to your account yet (for example, because you were offline). Keep for this account seals them here so they move to the account the next time this account signs in — another account sees none of it. Discard deletes them from this computer.
- Switching accounts. Sign out, then sign in with the other account from the wizard. The other account’s move, if any, starts on its own first sign-in, and its own chat history comes with it.
If it still fails
Nothing here needs support; if you want a key revoked and can’t reach the dashboard, that’s account access — press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include your account email, and a person handles it.
