Create a profile and pick a device

Short answer

A profile is a saved iPhone Safari identity: a name, one device (iPhone model + iOS + Safari), and the proxy it launches through. Create it from Profiles → New profile: give it a name, pick a phone from the list (the devices you last created a profile on are at the top), then its browser and version beside it (a phone you pick starts on its version marked “Recommended”; every version is listed, and one that cannot be picked says why), choose (or add) a proxy, then Create. The device is fixed for the profile’s lifetime; the proxy can be changed later in Edit.

Check first

  • Signed in, online, and under your plan’s profile number (see Saved-profile limit reached).
  • The name must be unique in your account; reuse is refused.

Likely causes and fixes

  1. Which device? There is no default device. The first choice is “Any open iPhone (random)”: “a random iPhone model open for new profiles on your plan”. New profiles get a randomly chosen iPhone model from those your plan includes that are open for new profiles; you can also pick a model yourself. The profile keeps the model it gets. Choose a device instead when its model or Safari version better matches your visitors. Only versions marked “✓ Verified” or “Measured” can be picked; a held or off-plan phone, browser or version says why. When you pick a phone, it starts on its newest ✓ Verified version, marked “Recommended” (the newest Measured one when it has none verified). “Every device offered uses an identity measured on a real iPhone. Devices marked ✓ Verified are also proven identical on rendering, fonts and screen.”

  2. Can I change the device later? No — “Once set, the device profile is fixed for that profile’s lifetime.”. Create a new profile instead.

  3. Create is held: “Press “Add proxy” to add the proxy you typed, or cancel it, before creating the profile.”. A proxy typed into “+ Add new proxy…” is not saved until you press Add proxy. Press it, then Create.

  4. Preview says “none chosen, will not launch”. Creating without a proxy is allowed, but launching is not. Attach one now or later in Edit.

  5. From code. POST /v1/profiles with a name and optional archetype from GET /v1/archetypes; an unknown archetype is refused with 400.

If it still fails

Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include the exact message shown under the Create button and your plan. To move to Starter, Pro or Team, open the dashboard → Billing → Choose a plan (self-serve). Scale and Enterprise, refunds, disputed charges and “I paid but the plan is not active” are handled by a person.
