How the free trial works and what it includes

You might be here because: “how long is the free trial” · “do I need a credit card to try it” · “what can I do on the trial” · “can I invite my team during the trial” · “does the trial include the API” · “how many profiles can I run on the trial” · “trial AI credits” · “is there a free plan” · “free version” · “trial session time used up” · “trial_session_time_used” · “my trial profile will not launch, it says the device is not included” · “device_not_on_plan”

Short answer

A new account starts on a 7-day Trial with no card required. During it you can use the desktop app and the API, running one profile at a time, on two iPhone models, in sessions of up to 20 minutes, with 2 hours of session time in total. The trial does not include the AI agent. When it ends you can still sign in and see everything, but sessions need a plan.

Check first

  • The dashboard banner shows how many trial days are left.
  • Billing shows the trial end date and whether it has ended.

What the trial includes

From the plan catalog:

  • Length: 7 days, price 0, no card.
  • Profiles at once: 1. Saved profiles: 1. Saved proxies: 5. Storage: 1 GiB. Recipes: 10.
  • Session length: up to 20 minutes a session, on every kind of session: the desktop app, the API and the SDKs. The session is told the limit when it starts, and a session still running at 20 minutes is closed within about two minutes of the mark (closed_reason: "trial_session_limit"). Start another whenever you like.
  • Session time: 2 hours in total for the trial, counted from the day the trial starts — not per calendar month — across every session the account runs. A new session runs for 20 minutes or for what is left of the 2 hours, whichever is shorter. If the 2 hours run out during a session, that session is closed (closed_reason: "trial_time_used"). Once none is left, starting a session is refused with HTTP 429 tier-limit and code: "trial_session_time_used".
  • Desktop app and API: included, with live API keys.
  • AI agent: not on the trial. Every paid plan on offer includes the AI agent; the retired Free and Personal plans do not. Starter to Scale include AI credits each month, and you can add your own AI key instead. On Enterprise, AI follows the contract. Starting an AI session on the trial is refused with “AI isn’t included on this account’s current plan (Trial).”
  • Devices: iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, the two oldest base models. Every paid plan has every iPhone model.
  • Teammates: not on the trial. See Inviting teammates is available on paid plans.
  • VPN exits (OpenVPN/WireGuard): not on the trial; SOCKS5 proxies work.
  • Support: by email and in the community group (t.me/driftstackhq).

Likely causes and fixes

  1. “I want to keep going after day 7.” Choose a plan from Billing at any time; your profiles, proxies and settings carry over. New limits apply the next time you start a session.
  2. “It ended and I did nothing.” Sign-in and data stay. Sessions are refused with a “trial ended” message until you subscribe. Data is kept 30 days after the trial ends; after that the account may be deleted, with an email a week before.
  3. “Can I extend or restart the trial?” There is no self-serve extension. Ask support; a person decides.
  4. “The AI agent is refused on my trial.” That is the plan, not a fault: the trial has no AI agent on any source, so adding your own provider key does not enable it either. Choose a plan. Every paid plan on offer includes the AI agent. Starter to Scale include AI credits each month, and you can add your own AI key instead.
  5. “My session stopped on its own.” A trial session runs for up to 20 minutes, then closes (trial_session_limit); if the trial’s 2 hours run out first, it closes then (trial_time_used). Nothing in the profile is lost; start another session to carry on while time is left. On a paid plan a session that no AI agent drives runs for up to 4 hours.
  6. “I have several profiles but only one launches.” The trial keeps one saved profile. If your account already holds more — from before this changed, or from an earlier plan — nothing has been deleted: the others are still there, and your most recently used one launches. That holds however you launch: the desktop app, POST /v1/agent-sessions, POST /v1/sessions with a profile_id, and POST /v1/profiles/:id/launch. Only live profiles are counted, so a profile you delete stops counting at once, and the most recently used of the ones left launches. While the account holds more profiles than the trial keeps, a profile in the Trash cannot be restored, because a restore needs a free slot. A plan with more profiles brings the rest back into use.
  7. “Your trial’s 2 hours of session time are used up, so no new session can start.” The trial’s session time is spent, so new sessions are refused (HTTP 429 tier-limit, code: "trial_session_time_used"). The desktop app shows “Your trial’s 2 hours of session time are used up. Choose a plan at app.driftstack.io to keep running sessions. We keep your profiles, proxies and settings for 30 days after your trial ends.” Nothing is lost. Choose a plan from Billing: Starter, Pro, Team, Scale and Enterprise have no monthly hours total under fair use; a session that no AI agent drives runs for up to 4 hours.
  8. “This profile is set up as the iPhone 17, which your plan (Trial) does not include.” Trial sessions run as the iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini only. A profile set up as another iPhone keeps its device, so launching it is refused (HTTP 403, code: "device_not_on_plan") however you launch. Nothing about the profile is changed or deleted. Choose a paid plan to launch it as it is, or delete it permanently (from the trash too) and create a profile on the iPhone 13.

If it still fails

Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include your account email and what Billing shows for trial dates. Anything about extending a trial or a plan that does not match what you bought is handled by a person.
