Change plan: upgrades take effect now and are prorated, downgrades at renewal

You might be here because: “how do I upgrade” · “how do I downgrade” · “will I be charged twice if I upgrade mid-month” · “when does my downgrade kick in” · “change my plan” · “switch from Starter to Pro”

Short answer

Change plan any time from dashboard → Billing → Choose a plan. Starter, Pro and Team are self-serve. A move to a bigger plan takes effect straight away and you pay only the difference for the rest of the period; a move to a smaller plan takes effect at your next renewal, and you keep the bigger plan’s limits until then.

Check first

  • Signed in as the account owner? Plan changes are an owner action.
  • Which plan does Billing show now, and is it active (not past due)?
  • Do you actually need Scale or Enterprise? Those are sold by contact, not self-serve — see Scale plan: limits, and why it is not self-serve yet.

Likely causes and fixes

  1. Upgrading. Pick the plan; it applies immediately and the remaining period is prorated — you pay the pro-rata difference now and the new full price from the next period. New limits apply the next time you start a session.

  2. Upgrading when you pay by crypto. A plan paid by crypto cannot move to card billing until its paid term ends: a card checkout before then is refused with “You’ve already paid by crypto for a plan that runs until …”, and card billing can start after that date. A crypto upgrade charges the full new price and starts the new plan’s 31 days at once; the unused days of the lower plan are kept and run after it. There is no in-cycle proration.

  3. Downgrading. The smaller plan starts at the end of the current period; until then you keep the higher plan. No refund is issued for the unused part of the higher plan.

  4. After a downgrade some profiles or proxies will not launch. If you hold more than the new plan includes, only the most recently used ones can launch — see After a downgrade only the most recently used profiles/proxies can launch.

  5. Leaving an older plan. Once you leave a plan that is no longer sold you cannot buy it back — see Older plans (Personal, Team, Agency, API Starter/Builder/Scale) stay valid but are not sold again; Free accounts moved to the Trial.

  6. No “Choose a plan” button. On a payment problem the button is hidden until it is fixed; see Payment failed: sessions and AI stop until it is paid. After an ended trial it reads Choose a plan.

If it still fails

Press Talk to a person in this chat (or open Help) and include your account email, the plan you are on, the plan you want and what Billing shows. Scale and Enterprise, refunds, disputed charges and “I paid but the plan is not active” are handled by a person.
